the university of kelaniya is one of the major national universities in sri lanka. it is located just outside the municipal limits of colombo, in the ancient and historical city of kelaniya on the north bank of the kelani river. currently, the university has six faculties, three affiliated institutes and three institutes with accredited study programmes. the university of kelaniya celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2009.
